Featuring both traveling and permanent exhibits, the museum focuses on teaching a variety of science topics. Permanent exhibits include an Everglades airboat simulation, an elaborate reconstruction of prehistoric Florida, and a storm center. Take the kids to watch the otters swim in their two-story habitat or let them learn more about Florida’s marine life at the Ecoscapes exhibit.

Throughout the year, traveling exhibits are hosted for several months at a time. Check the website for a schedule of upcoming events. While you’re there, don’t forget to see the Great Gravity Clock, the largest kinesthetic sculpture in the state. This unique time machine uses different colored balls to track time and is one of just three in the world. Kids will also love the chance to play in the Science Park, an outdoor play area that includes a tennis ball launcher, bottle rockets, a roller coaster, and more.

IMAX Theater

Even if you don’t have time to explore the entire museum, a trip to the IMAX theater is highly recommended. Using new laser technology, this theater has one of the few IMAX Laser screens with shows offered in 2D and 3D. Settling into the comfy stadium seats and witness one of their science-themed shows, like the Hubble 3D or Amazon Adventure.
